Roving the Jericho Road
By: Kelly McDonald
I’m trying to reach out
to my fellow sojourners
while I travel the Jericho Road.
Though we wayfare together, observing each other,
neighbors, strangers, and family walk their unique paths,
as we wend our way while returning Home.
I need to remember, on my Jericho road
that those I meet are exploring
their own roads, like me, trying to find their way.
When I witness the trials, the tribulations of others,
I pause to be helpful, though
I’m not fully understanding their angst or their pain.
But sometimes, without thinking, I steer clear of their troubles
Allowing the distance between us
To hide the sorrows that I might abate.
I must realize, when I pause on my road
and lift up another,
It’s me who becomes the healed sojourner.
